How Woodforde's is spreading the 'festive beer' this Christmas

The festive season is once again here – and if there’s one thing that unites the entire Woodforde’s Brewery team, it’s the yuletide joy of a pint. Here, we take a look at why a pint of Norfolk’s finest deserves a place at the Christmas dinner table. 

The run up to Christmas often results in two feelings – the first being the fear of all the presents we inevitably leave to the last minute to buy… and second, the excitement of all the food to feast on.

But one thing that regularly gets overlooked – as a result of that great food on offer – is a good drink to pair it with. Many will partner the festive season with a breakfast buck fizz, wine with dinner and some spirits from under the tree. But for us, the real drink of choice at Christmas is a great beer.

And there really is so much on offer. Especially when it comes to the beer of Norfolk.

Starting things off, you’ve got a well-crafted amber ale. That could be our multi-award-winning, Supreme Champion Beer of Britain, Wherry. It sends you on an unmistakeable sensory experience – with rich flavours derived from its sweet malts clashing with citrusy hops. It really is the perfect accompaniment to festive food, whether its your traditional Christmas dinner or the late-night cheeseboard.

In the UK we can never guarantee a white Christmas, but one thing we can guarantee are dark and cold winter nights. And there’s no more perfect a partner on a chilly evening than a ruby ale. Its rich, spicy fruit flavours together with the warmth of roasted malts makes for a real winter warmer. We love nothing more than enjoying a pint of our festive Tinsel Toes ruby ale with a mince pie or two for a real Christmas cracker.

For those who prefer creamier options, there are plenty of options for you, too.

Sipping a glass of Irish cream liqueur is a common go-to for people at Christmas, but don’t forget about the cream stouts! Enjoying a well-crafted stout, laced with chocolatey and rich fruit flavours, is a fantastic way to relax after – or during – the busy festivities at Christmas. If you’re sat in front of the fire wanting to relax after a hectic day in the kitchen, look no further than our delicious Albion cream stout.

Last, but certainly not least on my list of beers to enjoy at Christmas, is a delicious dark ale. And we couldn’t be prouder of our Supreme Champion Beer of Britain, Nog. Its rich, chocolatey flavours are mixed with liquorice and treacle – and goes down incredibly well with your chocolate variety boxes.

We get it – a glass of wine at Christmas is a real treat. But as brewers, there is nothing we love and appreciate more than a quality beer.
