‘Old School Special’ unveiled as July Brewer Signature
The best of British bitter has been combined exciting hoppy flavours in our latest Brewer Signature.
There are few ale aficionados in East Anglia like our Brewing Manager Bruce Ash, who in 2013 became one of only 29 accredited beer sommeliers in the country.
That, tied with his more than 30-year career at Woodforde’s means he knows the science behind a cracking pint – and he’s concocted a winning formula with Old School Special.
The 4.7% English pale ale captures everything great behind a traditional pint of bitter, while tapping into the latest hoppy trends to create a sweeter and more aromatic finish.
Bruce said: “There are so many hoppy beers about at the moment and they’re all fantastic. I think beers go in cycles and waves – but I think there’s always a place at the bar for a traditional bitter, and that’s what I wanted to produce.
“Old School Special is copper in colour, the flavour is a rounded, sweet flavour from the malts and the hops I’ve chosen give it a bit of a herbal, minty aroma.”
Bruce has been a stalwart of our brewery since he first joined in 1987, with his creations going on to earn numerous awards, as well as personal awards at a national level.
He added: “I’ve always been passionate about beer. I think it comes from seeing people enjoy the pint of beer you produce.
“There are so many different styles to try.
“It’s been a part of me throughout my whole life. I like it from the top to the bottom really, from the job I do brewing the beer with the hops and malts, to the end product of a decent pint in a pub.”
As with all our Brewer Signatures beers, Old School Special is exclusively available in cask for one month only.
