The best beers to try on your Norfolk holiday
So, you’re planning a holiday to Norfolk? That’s bootiful, as we say ‘round here! But if you’re really going to enjoy Nelson’s County, you’ve got to try the beers that help put Norfolk on the map.
Here’s a rundown of some of the best bears (there’s another bit of local lingo for you) you must try on your visit, courtesy of Norfolk’s premier brewery.
Ale
Norfolk is rich in history – indeed its most famous son is honoured in our logo – but if you ask us about the most fascinating part of our county’s history, its Norfolk’s contribution to beer. That mean’s you’re missing out on a real treat if you don’t sample the local tipple.
The famed Maris Otter barley that grows across our county is revered nationwide for the quality beer it helps create. Especially when it comes to ale.
That’s why we welcome so many tourists to our brewery tap, The Fur and Feather, to taste our beers. And that’s certainly true when it comes to our Supreme Champion Beer of Britain, Wherry.
This mighty and zesty amber ale delivers a sensory strike through its floral aroma and citrussy flavours – earning it national notoriety.
But it’s not the only award-winner behind our bars! You’ve also got the likes of Nelson’s Revenge for those who like a bitter, or Bure Gold for fans of golden ales.
Craft beer
Now, the Norfolk Broads might not be the Florida Everglades (despite 2011 reports of an alligator on the loose) – but you can still set sail to a New World with our craft beer range.
The New World Brewing range is the brainchild of our American-born Head Brewer and captures the styles and flavours characteristic of the US craft beer scene.
Both Hazy IPA and Tropical IPA pack a powerful stateside flavour punch which could go toe-to-toe with the American heavyweights. Afterall, why go to Disney World when you could go to Wroxham Barns?
Lagers and IPAs
We may historically be renowned for our ales – but we know how to create a cracking lighter pint at Woodforde’s in the form of lagers and IPAs.
The newest addition to our bar, English Lager has already made an impact in an homage to British brewing like no other. Crafted with a blend of innovative English hops, you couldn’t ask for anything more refreshing to enjoy in the sunshine.
If IPAs are more your thing, look no further than Volt, our award-winning American IPA. Brewed using the most aromatic American hops, its light and fruity notes have made it a beer garden favourite.
Where can I pick up a pint in Norfolk?

If you ask us though, there are two you can’t miss. And that’s the Fur and Feather and the Lord Nelson.
Both family and dog friendly pubs, operated by Woodforde’s, champion local ingredients and the best beer on offer in the county (if you don’t trust us, check out our awards cabinet!).
If you’re looking for a fun activity, you can also book a brewery tour – and get 10% off any purchase in our shop.
